The Political Groups
As in national parliaments MEPs sit together in political groups according to their political beliefs.
Hence French UMP MEPs and those from the German CDU and CSU sit together in the European People's Party (EPP group).
MEPs are not affiliated to a European political party; it is their national party which belongs to a European political party.
